Northend United 2 Bloomfield 2 NIBFA Plate   Saturday 21st October 2023

Saturday saw the chance for a home game in Ballymena in the NIBFA Plate against Bloomfield. Conditions were perfect for the game and it didn’t disappoint the large crowd gathered. The team started off brightly with the midfield of Finn, Shane, Dylan and Joseph battling hard and creating chances for Alfie upfront. The back three of Iona, Odhran and Philip were being well marshalled by Corey in nets, allowing them to play from the back and snuffing out any chances. Despite creating numerous chances the goal would not come. Half time 0-0

The second half started with the introduction of Eoghan and Conor to the attack. After good work from Finn in the corner he was taken down, he swung in the resulting free for Dylan to glance into the corner of the net. The team pushed for a second to finish the game but after two defensive errors Bloomfield swung the game round to take the lead. Keane and Charlie were now introduced to try for the equaliser. With five mins to go a great team break away goal resulted in Dylan scoring again. Further chances were created in the dying minutes, but it wasn’t to be. Full time 2 -2

The lottery of penalties decided the outcome and unfortunately after 8 pens each it was Bloomfield who reached the next round. With some nice passages of play. The hard work over the season is showing promising signs for next season.

Northend United 5 Belfast Celtic Cubs 6 NIBFA Cup Saturday 7th October 2023

This was the first time the team entered the NIBFA Cup and were given a home draw v Belfast Celtic Cubs at Belvoir Belfast. The team started brightly and played their style of football all day. After some neat play from a corner and sharp turn and finish from Eoghan Kelly in the box the team took the lead. Further chances arrived but the Belfast Celtic Cubs keeper saved well from Conor and Eoghan. In a cruel twist Belfast Celtic were awarded a free kick in the last minute that went under the wall to take the game into penalties. The first 5 penaltiess could not separate the teams and unfortunately the 6th was missed.

Northend United 5 Taughmonagh 2   Friday 29th September 2023

Friday night football at Finaghy didn’t disappoint as both sides set out to play football. Early chances and nice passages of play from the beginning allowed the team to create chances. However Taughmonagh capitalised from a mistake to take the lead. This spurred the team on and after great pressure from Conor he was able to equalise. Joseph was able to extend the lead just before HT. Changes in allowed the team to add fresh legs and this paid off with goals from Dylan and Conor. Taughmonagh pulled a late goal back after a long range free went over the head of Corey in nets.
